Preparing for Your First Treatment

Your first acupuncture treatment will last approximately 1.5 to 2hrs. If you have any time constraints please let me know before we begin your treatment. Acupuncture points are most often placed on the limbs, back and torso. It is helpful for me to have access to various acupuncture points, so please wear loose clothing, preferably not blue jeans. You are welcome to bring a change of clothes such as a skirt, sweat pants or shorts.

Please come to your first treatment having had a light meal or snack. It is generally recommended that following an acupuncture treatment you have time to relax, stay well-hydrated, and avoid engaging in intensive exercise, i.e. running, weight lifting, swimming, biking, boot camp, gym workouts. Essentially it’s best overall for a treatment to assimilate and continue to be effective if you have a lighter schedule for that day or evening following a treatment. Light workouts and walking following a treatment are ok.

When you come to your first session, it is suggested that you come early to allow about 10 minutes to complete your initial patient paperwork. Also bring a list of all prescription medications, vitamins, herbs and other supplements you are currently taking.

The treatment will begin with an interview during which I will record a thorough medical history of all current and previous health concerns. In your interview, please be sure and mention any known allergies, history of surgeries, presence of a pacemaker, history of epilepsy or seizure disorders, and if you have any blood clotting disorders.
